Healthy Foods Lunch Programme
"Children are engaged and hands-on in their learning, like a self-sufficient hub of mini adults. They run activities, support one another, and demonstrate kindness and tuakana–teina in action every day. The school actively draws on the knowledge and expertise of its community to enrich learning experiences. This partnership helps create a well-balanced curriculum that prepares students for the real world while ensuring strong foundations in core learning areas."

At Springdale School, we believe that a well-nourished student is a successful student. That’s why we are thrilled to provide free, nutritious lunches to every students.
We are proud participants in the Government-funded Ka Ora, Ka Ako | Healthy Lunches in Schools Programme, which is the cornerstone of this initiative. But our approach goes a step further: our lunches aren't just delivered—they are prepared fresh daily, right here on site, in our state-of-the-art industrial kitchen.
The internal lunch model allows for less waste, less rubbish, and more student voice. This model also allows us to maintain the highest standards of quality and freshness, with well-rounded nutritious meals. Our next step is to incorporate ingredients grown in our very own Springdale School garden beds, connecting students to the food cycle and fostering a sense of community pride.
By taking the stress out of preparing daily lunchboxes, we are ensuring all our students are well-fed, focused, and ready to learn and engage throughout the school day.
